The 'Pollada' gathers a thousand people in the Serrallo

The restaurant 'El Taller' imports this popular Peruvian feast that has chicken meat as the protagonist

The spirit of Peru's 'Polladas' has arrived in Tarragona thanks to El Taller Restaurant, located in the Serrallo seafaring district, and with the aim of carrying out a dedicated event in Carrer Sant Pere, on Sunday 2 July, and coinciding with the end of the festivities of Sant Pere.

In Peru, the so-called 'Polladas' were born in the 70s, as one of the most popular practices to raise funds quickly, because of the crisis that hit the Latin American country. If you needed emergency income and didn't want to go to a bank for a bank loan, the solution was to offer friends, family or acquaintances a delicious chicken dish with 'papas sancochadas' and salad. A festive meal, accompanied by good music and drink for the attendees to have fun while helping the organizer financially.

The managers of the El Taller restaurant made it big "jaleo, street and have a good time at the first Pollada. Nearly a thousand people have passed through here in a party where the gastronomy and music have not stopped. It has exceeded what we expected» explains Ã’scar Garcia, co-owner of the Taller Restaurant, together with Jorge Huima, chef of the establishment, Peruvian by birth, of a Japanese mother and with an infinite love for Tarragona.

Good party mates

Grilled marinated chicken, 'cebiche', fideuà, and mussels with patchamanquera sauce delighted the palates of the attendees who came to number 14 on Calle Sant Pere. The idea of carrying out this popular 'Pollada' had been on Jorge Huima's mind for years, but it was not until this 2023 that it materialized "it is a one hundred percent initiative of the Restaurant Workshop and born from the need to get out of the routine and fill the Serrallen neighborhood with life, with which we feel very identified".
