60% of large Spanish companies increase CO₂ emissions

At the current rate, decarbonisation will be in 2090
The non-governmental organization Oxfam Intermón has reported that nearly 60% of large Spanish companies have increased their total CO₂ emissions despite the climate emergency. The entity states this in a report that examines the climate action of the 50 largest companies in the State; a report released two days before the start of the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.

In 2022, adds Oxfam, the direct CO₂ emissions of these companies reached 40% of Spain's total emissions, comparable to the volume emitted by Belgium. "We are facing an unprecedented climate crisis, and the efforts of large Spanish companies to decarbonize and align themselves with the fight against climate change are very insufficient," said Miguel Alba, responsible for inequality and the private sector of Oxfam International.
