Tourist dies after being struck by lightning on a beach in Colombia

 

A Venezuelan tourist died this Tuesday after being struck by lightning on a beach in the city of Cartagena, Colombia,   local media reported .

In the recordings published on social networks, you can see the exact moment in which  the lightning strikes the victim , identified as Froilanis Maireth Rivas Román, 34 years old, and he  immediately falls to the ground . A second person, who was walking near the woman, also collapses to the ground, but gets up and flees the scene.

According to the director of the Regulatory Center for Emergencies and Emergencies (CRUE), Álvaro Cruz,  quoted by the media, the woman was transferred from Azul Boquilla beach to the Serena del Mar Hospital and was admitted to the emergency room due to cardiorespiratory arrest. "The doctors  resuscitated her for 45 minutes , after that she was declared dead," Cruz said.

According to the media, hours before the tourist's death, the Advisory Office for Disaster Risk Management (OAGRD) of Cartagena issued an alert to citizens "to avoid emergencies" due to weather conditions.

"The IDEAM ( Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies ), (...), warns of rains to the west of the Caribbean Sea in the coming days, associated with the monsoon trough. Cartagena could be affected in the next 72 hours with moderate rains," the OAGRD said in a statement on Facebook.
